Busy Summer! Cars Land and Vegas

Radiator Springs Racers at Night

I know, I know – I’ve slacked.  It has been a very busy June/July.  So let me share a few tidbits from these action packed months!  As everyone in the world knows, even those non-Disney friends of ours (yes, we DO have non-Disney friends), Cars Land had it’s big debut on June 15th.  Steve and I were invited to be a part of the red carpet fanfare where our highlight was seeing the Nicest Lady in showbiz – Bonnie Hunt.Ok now, before you read the next few paragraphs and say “Heidi ,is this a food blog or a travel blog??” c’mon people – you know me – Travel for me ALWAYS involves food highlights.  I mean, why do you think I run marathons and belong to Weight Watchers??

So, that being said, if you’re making your way to Disneyland and California Adventure this summer, make sure to stop into the Carthay Circle Restaurant and Lounge.  The upstairs fine dining restaurant usually will require a reservation, however you can easily find room downstairs in the lounge to savor a few cool moments during your day.  They have a nice cocktail menu (I liked a drink that is featured as Walt’s favorite, the “Scottish Mist”) and creative light bites (I want to try the cake pops next time!).

The addition of Cars Land and Buena Vista street are just amazing.  Check out my Flickr page for more pics.

Most recently, we spent a few days soaking up the sun in Las Vegas.  Again we enjoyed our stay the The Cosmopolitan with some very fun friends who made this trip even better than the last!  I can’t get enough of the pools and the REAL New York pizza joint on the 3rd floor.  However, there is a new addition to the resorts endless foodie gems – The Neopolitan of Las Vegas.

Located at the south end of the Boulevard Pool (East Tower, 4th floor), it offers adult sweet treats.  Push-pops, popsicles, milkshakes and sorbets fused with champagnes, rums and other yummy spirits.  We tried the blood orange juice sorbet with candied tangerine bits, Moet & Chandon Champagne, topped with candied ginger.  They assemble the sorbets right in front of you to order using liquid nitrogen.  The coconut popsicle looked delicous! And even though it sounds super sweet – it was just enough to be refreshing.  If you’re not a hotel guest, don’t fret.  You can get to The Neopolitan by signing up for the Cosmpolitan Identity Club (not just for gambling) and use that card to enter the pool area to get to the bar.  There is an Identity desk conveniently located right near the East Tower elevator bay.

So many more treats to share with you as the summer progresses…stay tuned!
